"We are humans too..."

I was just listening to a song from scorpions, named "White Dove", if you have ever heard of it and I thought about all those immigrants that have to go to a foreign land, leave their houses, their friends, their life back and begin a new one.. Trying to adjust themselves and their families to the new conditions, a new life...

A new language, new customs and traditions, new people that don't support strangers, because simply they don't like them...

New school and classmates for their children... bulling and discrimination for the "foreigners"...

And all the above, if the "new state" supports them... otherweise.... they have to work all day long, children have to stay home or go to the streets and sell some flowers or some tissues...

Generally, most of them seek a new life.. better than the old one.. full of peace and hope and what they face is discrimination from the new society..

Next time you see somebody different from you, a "foreigner", please support them...
Let me end up this post with the following lyrics from the same song:

"But instead of a new life

But there are some that they do not and the rest of us can ,with little things, make huge change...

1... 2... 3... ONE CHILD DIED SOMEWHERE IN AFRICA

You might think that you hear this "counting" every day, that every 3 seconds a child dies somewhere in Africa because of the hunger and poverty. Well, some of us might think, "who cares?" or some others will keep that in mind and next day they will buy shoes from a famous company that uses children workers.

It's tragic that 250 millions of boys and girls in the world, between 5-14 years old, work 14-16 hours a day producing carpets, cutting diamonds, carry bricks.... There are now 100,000 to 250,00 children that work in the gold mines in Africa and there are 12 million child workers in India!...

And what about Trafficking? According to Unicef " Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year" and that "there is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation".

And these are not the only examples, if you google "Child Labour" you will find apprx. 2,960,000 results. Too much ha?.

Those children are screaming, because they are abused and exploited every day.

You can stop this by visit UNICEF and STOP CHILD LABOUR, two organisations that are doing their best to fight Child Labour.

By the Way,from the beginning of the article until now approx. 11 children died.

The Global GRACE Day is a special initiative by a growing movement of individuals all over the world. The movement cannot and should not be identified with a specific group or organization; it is an expanding movement of those who have started to develop the quality of GRACE in their hearts. You will recognize them not by their signs and signals, but by the way they behave, act and talk.

One core figure in this movement is Sabine Lichtenfels, peace activist and cofounder of the peace research village Tamera in Portugal. She is one of the most fascinating spiritual teachers of our time, connecting political actions with female peace knowledge in a unique way. She leads international pilgrimages through crisis areas and is the initiator of the “Global Campus,” an education program for young peace workers which will eventually have bases on all continents.

Why November 9^th?

Throughout history, November 9^th has seen both the force of cruelty and the power of liberation.
On November 9, 1938, known as the "Reichspogromnacht" (Crystal Night), synagogues were burned and more than 30,000 people were forced into concentration camps.
On November 9, 1989, the Berlin wall, acting as a barrier between two ideologies, was finally taken down.

Many peace movements around the world now use this day as a day of remembrance and as a day of opportunity to create a common peace power that no longer allows cruelty and separation between humans and our planet.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy,

the number one genetic killer of children worldwide

It is a disease that affects children's muscles. Around the age of ten they lose the ability to walk and usually die in their late teens or early twenties

. It needs support from everywhere and anywhere. Some of the leading doctors and researchers from around the world are in agreement that this disease will be cured within the next decade, there is just a lack of funds.

New Light Youth Association is a community based organization registered under the ministry of sports and youth affairs and has been in force for 7yrs.

The group has been designed to address these basic components:

To reduce youth vulnerability especially those residing in urban areas by initiating programs that addresses the plight of the youth.
To promote and emperor the youth with relevant information and skills on employment creation.
To provide career and employment opportunities so as to have more access to job markets for the youth.

Envrionment SOS

Dear friends,
yesterday, 5th June, we were celebrating the day dedicated to the environment. What really makes us feel sad and desperately angry, is that we remember the Environment only that day. Especially TV Channels and,generally speaking, the Media...
We have misunderstood this day... and why it was dedicated to the environment. It is not a day in which we talk all the time about the environment and next morning we turn on the television and forget to switch it off later, we take a bath every day, withough respecting at all the water resources...
5th June was a day dedicated to the environment in order, we to remember the problems our planet faces and that we must keep trying to save it...

Let's not only remember the environment that day.. .but every day.... in our everday lives...

Eating for Life

Some people ignore dietary advice to cut back on or cut out animal products, perhaps hoping that a 'magic pill' will come along that will make their illnesses go away. Common sense tells us that prevention is the best medicine. More and more people are finding wonderful ways to tempt their taste buds without tempting fate.

"Vegetarians have the best diet. They have the lowest rates of coronary disease of any group in the country ... they have a fraction of our heart attack rate and they have only 40 per cent of our cancer rate."

"What do you think of meat-based diets like the Atkins diet?"

I call them 'the make yourself sick diets' because they cause the body to go into ketosis - a state that occurs when we are seriously ill. I also use that designation because the very foods recommended - meat, chicken, bacon, eggs and cheeses - are the foods the Heart Association and the Cancer Society say cause our most dreaded diseases. ... There is only one way to fully satisfy your appetite with delicious foods and stay trim and healthy for a lifetime - that's a low-fat vegetarian diet with fruits and vegetables and a bit of exercise.

Eliminating animal foods from your diet reduces the risk of some of our biggest killers. According to Dr T. Colin Campbell, nutritional researcher at Cornell University and director of the largest epidemiological study in history, 'The vast majority of all cancers, cardiovascular diseases and other forms of degenerative illness can be prevented simply by adopting a plant-based diet.' Heart disease, cancer, strokes, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity and other diseases have all been linked to meat and dairy consumption.It's never too late to change your habits for the better. Changing your diet isn't nearly as inconvenient as enduring a heart bypass operation, suffering paralysis from a stroke or facing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer! Going vegetarian is the single best thing you can do for your health.

Vegetarians are typically slimmer than meat-eaters. A whopping 70 per cent of men and 63 per cent of women in the UK are either overweight or obese, conditions which lead to illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder diseases, arthritis and musculoskeletal problems. In a study in the British Medical Journal, researchers studied 21,105 people and found that vegan men weighed 5.9 kilograms less and vegan women 4.7 kilograms less than their meat-eating counterparts. The study concludes, '[T]hese data suggest that a meat-free diet is associated with a low prevalence of obesity'.

The risk of developing heart disease amongst meat-eaters is 50 per cent higher than that of vegetarians. In fact, researchers have found that the longer and more often people eat meat, the greater their risk of heart disease.

Meat, dairy products and eggs are completely devoid of fibre and complex carbohydrates, the nutrients that we're supposed to be consuming more of, and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol, which make us fat and lethargic in the short term and lead to clogged arteries and heart attacks in the long term.

New Projects

Dear Friends,
a long time to talk together right? We apologise for this absence, but we had a lot to do...

Although, we have created a lot of projects and modified others...

We have changed our site look (view the new look) and we have created two more projects only for you!
The Speak 4 the World Project!,which is the second project in the "4the World" Series. The purpose? To give you the opportunity to express yourself, to write down your opinions and views about everything that happens in your community or in the world. Whether you are a member or not, you can change the mind of hundreds of youths who view our site each month! Do Something!

Secondly, we have created the Open Discussions or DeBaTe@UYCW Project. This is an online discussion between youths about issues like: "Should Capital Punishment be banned?" and other interesting ones... For making it interesting, there is a winner in each conversation. The one who convienced the participants with his thoughts .... Why don't you Join?

WORLD AIDS DAY - TAKE ACTION - KEEP THE PROMISE

ACT UP HELLAS (Aids Coalition To Unleash Power - Greece) will be informing and raising awareness of the public in the central train station of Piraeus in Athens. Our activities have started a month ago, with a DANCE FOR AIDS action and will go on until the end of 2006, with many educational programmes ( for children, youth and adults), more DANCE FOR AIDS actions in well-known clubs and bars of Athens, art exhibitions from our summer campaign (Safe Summer '06 - Keep The Promise) and many activities from all Universities in Greece and from many people who share our beliefs and work along with us in the fight against AIDS.
Today, the world unites, for the 25 years of HIV existance. However, we must keep working all year, every year, find efficient ways to inform, educate and support youth and everyone. Our leaders have promised to diminish AIDS by 2015. Lets remind them, push them and work with them to achieve that goal. Lets all keep our promises!
I 'll be waiting information about what everybody does this day and throughout the year.
